From today newspaper reported that there are 25 people who attended a pharmaceutical conference in Penang at the end of June have been confirmed infected with the influenza A (H1N1) virus. In Malaysia so far has reported 434 cases but with a recovery rate of 79% . This big amount of people had been evoke our attention to this issue.. According to WHO latest updated shows that Influenza A had been spread to many countries in the whole world..

A few questions regarding virus H1N1:
What is H1N1 virus?? It is a subtype of s a subtype of influenza virus A and the most common cause of influenza (flu) in humans. It is highly contagious acute respiratory disease infecting humans caused by a new virus, the result of a mutation created by the mixing of pig, bird and human influenza virus genes.

How it spread?? When the uninfected person breathe in contaminated air, touch infected hands or surfaces and thus be exposed.
What are symptoms of Influenza A?? Fever, cough, headache, muscle and join pain, sore throat and runny nose, and sometimes vomiting or diarrhea.
Will there be a new vaccine developed for the current infection?? Yes, WHO is currently working towards development of such a vaccine. According to WHO, it would take about 4 to 6 months to manufacture.
Is there human vaccine available ?? No. Current seasonal human influenza vaccine does not provide protection from the current influenza A (H1N1).
Now, most important part which everyone need to know is How can we protect our self from getting infected with this disease??
- Wash hands with soap and water thoroughly and often
- Avoid touching face, especially nose and mouth with hands to minimize infection
- Avoid go to crowded places
- Stay informed of the situation of the disease and of the appropriate measures taken to avoid being infected
- Practise good health habits including adequate sleep, eating nutritious food and keeping physically active.
- Drink more water and consume more fruits and vegetable.
- Wear mask.
